I Shoot Your Face Off

Title:  Automaton Transfusion
Actors/Director/Anything Worth Mentioning Right Away:  If you haven’t heard anything about this movie, you probably don’t know anything about it.
Introduction:  I bought this DVD as part of a sale at Games Plus with my birthday money.  It looked promising since it had a half of a corpse on the front of it and was distributed by the same people that did Broken and Pulse 2.
Location:  It starts in a high school and some kids rooms, but then turns into a road trip to another town where they hit a house party, bar, etc.   It must have had a pretty good budget based on all the places they go.
Plot:  Zombies start killing everyone, sometimes for no real reason or explanation.  It’s pretty cool, actually.   With only about fifteen minutes left in the movie, some army guy explains to the main kids involved that the whole plot of the movie is that the United States army was experimenting on dead soldiers to try and reanimate them and turn them into soldiers.   This would accomplish that the dead would be able to fight all of our wars for us, though I’m not sure what that would entail because they could die again and eventually we’d run out of dead people, wouldn’t we?  I mean, they wouldn’t be reanimating the really old or weak, would they?  Anyway, the zombies are also not really zombies because they’re trained to think and run and do some of the things that zombies tend to not do.   When one of the kids asks if they ever stopped to think that this could have been a bad idea, the guy just kind of shrugs off the question and doesn’t give a straight answer, but it’s something I would like an answer to still.   Moving on to other confusing parts of this movie, the main kid who had a scientist for a dad adventures back to his home to try and find some serum that will prevent him from becoming a zombie if he takes it and is bitten by one of the actual zombies.   The HUGE gaping plot hole here is that even though this will prevent him from becoming a zombie if bitten, if he gets eaten by a group of zombies HE’S STILL GOING TO DIE.   Why he’d risk his life for something that isn’t going to make him immortal is beyond me.   And after seventy five minutes, this movie closes on a cliff hanger with a “to be continued”.  Really.
Acting:  It’s as good as you can expect from a teenage type cast.
Production:  It looks like it could be in theaters, even though I know it was straight to DVD.
Sex/Nudity:  There is one sex scene, in a party where everyone else leaves because of the zombies, so then the lucky unaware couple is attacked by a zombie.   It’s pretty funny.
Special Effects:   A zombie gets his face shot off, a zombie pulls a pregnant girl’s baby out of her stomach and a zombie rips a girl’s chin/jaw line off.   Yeah, it looks pretty gory and realistic.   There is just blood everywhere, but what did you expect?
Overall Verdict:  I really did like this movie, mainly because a lot of times it seems like it is less talk and plot and more just people being eaten by zombies.   The only thing I didn’t really like was that it was so short and then left as to be continued.   Hopefully a part two is still on the way in 2012.
