Title: Shutter
Actors/Director/Anything Worth Mentioning Right Away: Joshua Jackson is in this and maybe someone else you know. I don’t know.
Introduction: I bought this DVD on eBay for a penny. It was worth it.
Location: While this movie starts in the United States, it quickly ends up taking place for the majority of time in Japan. Yes, they had a budget.
Plot: Joshua Jackson is a photographer and he just landed a job in Japan. He and his girlfriend move there then get haunted by spirits in their pictures. Then people start dying. He tries to pass it off like this girl was crazy but in actuality she was murdered by them. So this ghost girl continues her onslaught until she is finally revealed as the victim. In lines of movies like The Grudge and The Ring in the U.S., this movie is actually a pretty good remake.
Acting: I should probably know some of the actors other than Pacey, but yeah, this movie has passable acting.
Production: It looks like The Grudge, The Ring and other U.S. horror remakes of that type.
Sex/Nudity: Yes, there is some and, yes, it’s pointless.
Special Effects: The way they put the ghosts in pictures is awesome.
Overall Verdict: This movie makes me really miss Polaroid cameras, since they are the only ones that can truly capture the spirits in pictures. But yeah, I’m going to track down and watch the original, but this movie isn’t half bad at all. I didn’t know what exactly to expect going into it, but I thought it would be something cheesy or just a rip off of something else (same plot, different name) aside from being a remake. But this movie really delivered and I’m actually glad I watched it. If I had known it was a U.S. remake with the cast it has I probably never would have watched it, assuming it would suck. I was pleasantly proven wrong.
