Razorblades For Breakfast

Title:  Broken
Actors/Director/Anything Worth Mentioning Right Away:  No.  The main character that is the killer looks like a young Robert Englund, but otherwise, no.   No one I know.
Introduction:  I bought this movie at Games Plus.  It says it’s an exclusive rental from Blockbuster.  I’m not sure what all that entails, and I’m too lazy to look it up, but all I know is that someone bought this movie from Blockbuster, thus taking a copy out of the only place you can rent it.  So if it’s not in when you go there, no “Oh well, let’s go to Hollywood Video”… Oh wait.  Right.  Hollywood Video is no more either.  I keep forgetting that.
Location:  There is one scene in a restaurant, but otherwise it’s all out in the middle of the woods somewhere.
Plot:  This movie starts with who I can only refer to as “The Blonde” (though she probably has a name) being kidnapped by the only guy in this movie.  She’s locked in a coffin she must break out of, only to then have to cut her own noose by ripping the stitches on her stomach and pull a razorblade from within her guts.  At some point during this, she begins to suffer from Stockholm syndrome, which becomes really apparent when the guy brings in a second victim who is a brunette.   The blonde keeps warning the brunette not to try and escape, but eventually, the brunette does, only to be caught and killed.  Ultimately, the blonde believes she is free, goes to a cabin and finds her daughter, but when she opens the door she gets a shotgun facelift and the movie ends.  It’s pretty gruesome stuff.
Acting:  The acting isn’t actually that bad.  It could pass as a movie in theaters.
Production:  The production also isn’t that bad and it could pass a movie in theaters.  It has a “Last House On The Left” vibe to it.
Sex/Nudity:  There is some blood-soaked bare breast scenes and then one sex scene where all you can see are their faces.  I believe the sex scene was done just because she tried to escape afterwards, when his guard was down.   This is one of the few times I can say a sex scene is acceptable in a horror movie.  Plus, she also had this look on her face like she wasn’t really enjoying it.
Special Effects:  She dug around in her stomach looking for a razor blade.   It looked pretty real to me, so the effects are pretty spot on.
Overall Verdict:  I bought this movie because on the front of the case it claims that it makes “Saw” look like a children’s film.   While it could stand a bit more gore to do so, it was still an acceptable film for the genre.  If you’re into the torture genre, then this movie will not let you down.
